To be honest, I've actually listened to this album a number of times trying to muster interest in writing about it. The original LP was released in 1973, although I listened to a remastered version (changes things, I know, but that's the way it is). Between hits like "Candle In The Wind", "Bennie and the Jets", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", "Grey Seal" and "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting", what I really noticed was Elton John's iconic piano playing and the falsettos backing tracks like "This Song Has No Title". And of course the 70s rock drumming. I listen to tracks on this album and can absolutely imagine that they were epic hits at the time, but it just doesn't do it for me.
I actually don't think I'm going to write much more about this album. It's been feeling like a block to me listening to other albums for a while, so I'm just going to move on. If you're interested, the original track listing by disc is broken down below. And you can listen to the 40th anniversary remaster on Spotify, below.
Enjoy.
